Countdown Post - The Stolen Turnabout
I <3 Ronnie~~
He's one of my favorite defendants, that's for sure (up with Edgeworth and Takita <3). He's just so adorable, and he and Dessie as a couple are great. I also like his theme song a lot, especially during day two of the trial when it kept popping up whenever he made a new statement. The fact that he has a pretty well developed criminal mind makes him even cuter, too XD (selling company data for money, pleading guilty to a crime he didn't get to create an alibi for himself...).
I'd say more but I'm sleepy, and there are only so many ways to say "Ron's one of my favorite characters" :D.
I like Atmey a lot, too, especially now that I can understand him better (he was really hard to make out in Japanese B:). I feel bad that he was so desperate for a little attention that he went as far as he did, blackmailing Ron.
I especially like the case itself, because not only does it start with a crime other than murder, it was pretty surprising when Godot showed up and we had to get ANOTHER verdict. Plus the fact that Ron was begging to be made guilty gave it a fresh feeling. Even if the double jeopardy law was applied very poorly... Oh well.
In terms of Phoenix behavior this time, there were two things I found especially interesting. One being that he didn't seem all that bothered by getting Ron declared innocent of even the crimes he did commit. It wasn't exactly his fault, but he wasn't upset by it either. But even more interesting to me was near the end, when he thought he was out of options to question Atmey with. When faced with Atmey going back to his own trial, he used his emo sprite and was thinking, "Now even if we get Ron innocent, the real killer will still go free" (or something close to that).
First of all, Phoenix has never gotten anyone acquitted without naming the real killer, so the fact that he thinks he can even do that is a little interesting. Also, the fact that he seems more upset by the notion of Atmey going free than Ron being declared guilty. I wonder if it's just the nature of the case, or have Phoenix's motives shifted a little?
Also, Mia, go away. It'd be nice for Phoenix to win a case on his own once in a while. Especially when you distort canon! In this case, they make it seem that Mia is able to keep an eye on things even when she hasn't yet been summoned: Atmey made some outbursts at the end of his testimony before Maya summoned Mia (you know this because Maya speaks up), but by the time Mia shows up she acts as if she heard them and has already figured out the case. So are ghosts all-seeing? And if so, why did that not come in handy at all in 2-4!?
Pfffffft
Plus Godot can go suck a cock. It seems pretty ridiculous that in a district that regularly has prosecutors with perfect records (for years and years at a time) Godot can show up, not try a single case, and somehow work up a huge reputation. Even the judge seems to have heard of him despite him never having appeared in court before. He's not worth the hype, really, especially since he gets PWN'D in his first case.
Some argue that Godot knew all along Bullard was dead, even on the first day of trial when he had Ron accused of stealing the urn, and that he was just playing along so that he could eventually nail Ron for the murder. If you believe that, it would mean Godot was pretty stupid for risking that kind of plan when he hadn't investigated the murder itself very well: he didn't even seem to know all the details surrounding the emergency buzzer. If you don't believe that, he got owned his first day in court. I know the point of the prosecution in this game is to lose, but after all that hype from Gumshoe and Atmey you'd think he could put up a better fight.
I'm also fairly sure some of his lines were changed in translation... Before every testimony he says "we're listening" or something similar, but I'm pretty sure it used to be "I'm listening." I'd have to go back to know, but the chances of that are low at the moment! Anyone else know?
omg tomorrow's going to be a loooooong one
