croik: (I'll Odeko YOU!!!)

Believe it or not I finished the case today, despite hardware woes. But I'll try to keep my thoughts brief because my fingers may or may not be about to explode.

I don't have much to say about this case, really. It suffers from the "case 3" curse of being a longer case with a lot of backtracking and a feeling of being filler. But I do like it a little better on replay than I did originally. Two things I especially noticed!

1) The first day of investigation was ridiculously short! 1-3 seems to suffer from a lack of evidence all over the place. Phoenix went into court the first day with nothing but a photograph and the autopsy report, and with that alone was able to push on to a second day. I guess they had to stretch everything out to last over three days, but it pretty obviously could have been squished into two. I think I would have liked that better, because at least then it feels like you're going into court with some idea of where you're going.

2) Phoenix acts pretty familiar with Maya for not having known her very long. It seemed like there was a lot of "I knew she was going to say that" and "Same old Maya!" Of course, by then a month has passed since 1-2, but it's a little strange when in 1-2 Maya spent a lot of the time being generally down, and then perked up at the end, and now it's like they've known each other for years.

Same thing with Edgeworth. Phoenix makes a few comments of "Knowing Edgeworth, this is where he objects with new evidence..." Phoenix seems to think he knows Edgeworth and his tactics pretty well for it being only the second time he's faced him in court. Of course, he kind of owns Edgeworth in this case (thanks to every witness concealng information from the poor prosecutor) so maybe his attitude is warrented. But it does feel in places that the game expects you to accept that time has passed, and development happened while you weren't looking. Which, given the format of the game, is perfectly acceptable. Though it does make you wonder.

Like, in 1-3 Edgeworth displays some guilt by helping Phoenix out in court--the kind of thing that, presumably, Phoenix wanted to see him do. But even after that Phoenix doesn't talk to him for another two months! Come on, Phoenix, where's your followthrough!!

Anyway, that's 1-3. Not terribly exciting, but not as mind-numbing as I remember.
