All right, I did it. Downloaded the bitch and kinda half skimmed it. I'll watch it for real when TK's awake.

And yes, that makes me a bad fan for downloading it. But there's no way Square's getting any more of my money until they prove they're not just a bunch of hacks cashing in on big names that sold well. It's been a long time since I've been satisfied with any of their work, and they ain't getting full price out of me now!

From what I've seen so far Final Fantasy: Advent Children looks pretty much how I'd predicted. The graphics are cool, yeah, but Cloud still has the face of a 14 year old boy. The fight scenes are flashy and grand but, like most CGI in games and movies now, the characters all seem...kinda weightless. It's one thing to watch Cloud fly 50 feet straight up when he's a mess of polygons, but as a fully rendered figure it looks...kinda silly. XD

Voice casting is pretty good. The guy they cast as Cloud is the same I thought would fit him years ago, and that's fun. Everyone else is pretty good, though...Vincent's voice is deeper than I would have thought.

I can't comment on the story, though I can say there were a few, decisively cannon-defying things I caught a glimpse of. I know there's now a mini novel being released to recount the missing years between FFVII and AC, but it's hard to explain away things like...well, I can't say without spoiling. But it's disheartening to see some of the best scenes from the game negated for the sake of a little extra fanservice.

Okay, a LOT of extra fanservice.

Is it unreasonable of me to think they would prefer continuity (and general non-lameness) to fanservice? Probably - I’ll admit that. But that doesn’t mean that I’m happy about it. As much as I loved Final Fantasy VII when it was new, I just can’t follow this new tangent of the story. And no way I can put up its fanpoodles.

I liked Cloud’s character, I honestly did. And I still like it. I put a lot of time into the fandom, with message boards and fanfics, and I met a lot of people who loved it just as much. But just because Cloud’s in a new movie, and Cloud’s in a new game, and will probably be in more games, that doesn’t make them GOOD. I would rather play a new game, with new characters that are just as (or more) interesting, and is honestly A GOOD GAME, than play a mediocre game with Cloud. Or Vincent, for that matter

Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary I’m going to believe that good games can still be made. Even by you, Square. And when you manage to come out with a game that has equal quality in story, graphics, *and* gameplay, I will buy myself a new copy and recommend it to my friends.

Until then, have fun with the poodles.

...That got a little preachy. Sorry ^^. Back to AC.

All that’s left to say is that one of their scenes was taken directly from the manga/anime One Piece. For those who might not know, One Piece is one of (if not *the*) best selling manga in the world. And the scene I’m talking about was taken from the climax of the most famous arc. It’s hard to imagine that anyone familiar with the manga wouldn’t have picked it out. I don’t know if it was intentional or coincidental, but at least in One Piece it made sense. Or, at least, a little more sense than in does in AC.

I mean, either way the laws of physics are in full rigor, but….damnit, how did Tifa climb to the top of the tower before Cloud could fly up, anyhow??

Okay, that’s it.

I’m going to go back to finishing my current running fanfiction. Tomorrow, even, I’m going to try and finish a chapter of TF. I’ll probably be online if you wanna chat :D
