I decided I might as well write up my thoughts for the first half now, and then edit-add the rest of them after tomorrow. Be advised that this is taking a monumental effort on my part, because I'm not really fond of this case, and I have DMC4 in my posession (made of pure Blue Ray Sex), and yet I'm still here writing...!! I must not back down from my commitment!

Thus, 1-5, part one.

I got up through the second day of court, which means... one more investigation day and trial to go? I can never keep track with these three day trials. I don't care what CR peeps say, 2 days is very much enough. Anyway, I've played long enough to say

GAHHH I TOTALLY REMEMBER WHY I HATE THIS SLAPPED TOGETHER CASE!!!!!

Now don't get me wrong. There are some things that improve on playthrough (and having the benefit of being in [livejournal.com profile] gyakusai_rp, which does have a strong effect on my opinions of the games). I do like Angel and Jake a lot more than I originally did. Even Meekins has grown on me, though I never had anything against him in the first place. The first time I played 1-5 I was convinced Ema was a Maya clone and didn't really care about her at all, but by playing the cases in order (and seeing what becomes of Ema later) I like Ema a lot more now. In fact, I like her better than Maya. Skyes > Feys for sure. Even if Lana's being very difficult right now <3

Gant...I dunno. Gant and I have a strange relationship (rawr??) but I have to finish the case before I can say more about him. (EDIT: I lied, I have more to say about Gant).

But what still bothers me more than ever is the nonsense...!! Okay, so I just finished the case with the parrot witness, but at least in that case there is no law in PW world against cross examining non-humans. HOWEVER there really ought to be laws against dumbassery!!

Such as evidence law. "Only evidence that has been approved by the police can be admitted to court." LOL no. Has Phoenix not been stealing evidence from the scenes of crimes the entire game to be presented in court? Doesn't he continue to do so through the entire series? Doesn't Apollo do the same thing, even though his game came was created AFTER the creation of evidence law? Good thing 1-5 exists in a bubble!

Though what drove me insane today was when Gant took the stand on the first day to bring up the "second" murder. First he says he can't actually reveal anything because it's top secret. Then he tiptoes around a little, prodding Phoenix to bring it up (because obviously he wanted it brought up without having to say it). Then he finally tells it and suddenly it's Edgeworth's fault?? GOD I could have snapped my DS in two. Then it wouldn't be a DS anymore. It'd just be... S.

What kind of nonsense is it to say "You have to prove a connection to the case before it can even be mentioned here." Doesn't the fact that Gant already tried to tell Edgeworth about it the day before prove the connection is already there? If he had just said "It was Goodman's blood" the connection would be proved instantly. INSTANTLY. But he fucks around mumbling about "top secret" when the only reason it's top secret in the first place is because HE decided to call it that. It was a waste of time that proved Gant to be a douche more than it proved Edgeworth to be incompetent. Edgeworth didn't get the report. Even if it was because he yelled at poor Meekins, in any sane world someone would have made sure that Lana's case didn't go to trial when they weren't even sure of the victim.

Okay, I know, Gant is the villain and he WANTS Edgeworth to look bad so it takes heat off himself, but wouldn't anyone with half a brain realize at that point that Gant is jerking everyone around? He assigned a drunken patrolman to a murder scene. He declared the scene at the staton "top secret" because it had to do with a dead officer, even though there was nothing secret about Lana's case, or Edgeworth's case before that. In fact, Edgeworth's name was all over the news the day after he was arrested for Hammond's murder - but in Goodman's case, not even fellow officers are allowed to break this super sekrit? Not even when it's vital to the case of another law enforcement official that far outranks Goodman?

I guess we have to believe at this point that the police are soooo corrupt that Gant can do just about anything he wants, but it was just so ridiculous to sit there in court dicking around about whether or not Gant could reveal information that he already admitted Edgeworth should have known anyway. And the reason he cites for the wasted time is a law that has never existed in PW world in the past, and never comes up again. It was like... filler testimony. And I wanted Gant to die.

But even that didn't irritate me as much as Edgeworth's reaction. He actually cried out in court, "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry!" WTF Edgeworth? Even when declaring himself his father's murderer, Edgeworth never lost his composure like that. And then afterwards he's in his office lamenting, "I've only ever tried to do what was right...!"

Really? Edgeworth already admitted to Phoenix in their earlier cases that he would do (almost) anything to get his client guilty. He admitted that he became a prosecutor half to punish himeslf, half because he hated criminals. The way he talked about how cruel and vicious Karma was made it seem (to me, at least) that he realized that their methods were extreme. He admitted that von Karma was probably getting innocent people convicted. But when nailed by an oversight that was clearly the police's fault as much as it was his, he falls apart in guilt and self-doubt?

Even Phoenix notes "I've never seen him this distraught." Edgeworth is more upset by Gant being mean to him than being on trial for two intensely personal murders?

1-5 was created as a fanservice case - it's true. I assume they figured that they had to use Edgeworth because he's the fandom's favorite character (proved in popularity polls, it's true), and they had to find a way to make the case even more dramatic than 1-4. But it's so ridiculous to even think that Edgeworth would be more broken up by these things than what's already happened to him, even starting in an emotionally unstable place. My eyes just keep rolling out of my head.

And... bahhh there's more but I'll save that for the end of the case XD;;;

I just....GAHHH I hate slip-ins! When you try to pop something into canon that wasn't supposed to be there, there's always a fuck-up somewhere. Which is why stories should always move forwards (IMHO).

BTW, Dante is fucking hot and Nero wrapped his legs around him. Rawrrrr. >:3
