Time to talk about gaming, yo.
I beat FFXII for the second time tonight. My file was around 65 hours and everyone was level 44. I seemed to have an easier time than the first time through, despite being at lower levels. Like I told my bro, after beating Yiazmat no boss fight really compares.
Anyway I'm really glad I replayed, because I think it improves the second time. Knowing where to go and what to grind for made it easier to move the plot along through the long sections of travel, and Balthier especially is more fun to watch once you know his backstory. I also liked Vaan a lot more this time through: I hate to say it, but not expecting him to do anything remarkable made it easier to appreciate his character more.
Reddas, however, I still dislike. I would go so far as to say the parts of the plot he was involved with were the weakest. I really have a peeve against characters whose only purpose is to show up and move the plot along with the sheer force of their omnipotent knowledge. "I just happen to know exactly where you're supposed to go even though it's a place hardly anyone has ever heard of...!" "LOL OK THNX btw who the fuck are you??"
Also, Rikken, Elza, and the duck. I want to kick them all in the balls.
It makes me wish I could write fic for it, but I bailed on XII fandom a long time ago, and I don't know if I can work up the momentum to pump out something. Maybe that's what RP is for...?? 8D But we'll save that talk for another time.
On the PS3 front, apparently there's some kind of Warriors Orochi Z fusion nonsense on the horizon. Could they not wait until SW3 was out and upgrade all the characters' costumes at once? I'm really glad to see Benkei added to the roster, but with him and only one more addition (Saiyuki lady) is there much reason to buy it? WO3 is going to come out eventually anyway. Is this how they try to calm protests over SW3 going to the Wii?
It reminds me of the original Japanese press release Koei put out when SWii3 was announced: Koei said they were hoping to propel themselves to the forefront of the gaming industry. With marketing strategy like this, good luck!
Lastly, I finally beat both parts of the RE5 demo. That chain saw bitch sucks ass but I did finally take him out! I even got my brother to try the split screen mode with me, which was a little weird but also great fun. He commented to me that having a partner really lowered the fear factor of it (lol pun) and I have to agree, even if we spent most of the time going "WHERE ARE YOU?? HELP THIS ZOMBIE IS EATING ME." He thinks I should get a headset if I'm planning to play online at all (which I would like to do once I've gotten my confidence with the controls down), which I guess is not that expensive used if you can find them? The official PS3 one, anyway. I'm already going to have to turn in a game or two to cover the price of the game so I dunno if it's worth it. They already disabled mics on Home and hardly anyone on LBP uses one so do I need a headset just for RE5?
After all, it's more satisfying just listening to Chris going "Take it!" to Sheva by itself >:3. Boy the voice acting is cheesy but I do like how urgent Chris sounds when asking for ammo. It makes me want to give him a hug and tell him everything will be okay.
Not that I wouldn't just hug him anyway, that man is beefy.
Then there's FFXIII, but I'm not sure what to think of that right now. The supposed "story trailer" released a while back made no sense at all. OMG FOCUS, OMG L'CIE FAL'CIE CRYSTALS BLAH BLAH BLAH ok seriously what are you all talking about!? I know they don't want to give out plot details but you COULD calm down for like 5 seconds to make a little bit of sense. Looking at the team that's working on it, my expectations for it being anything outside a CG Movie Fest are very low.
Now that all that is out of the way, I'm finally going to start Disgaea! Wish me luck~
EDIT: Headset get!! Actually I forgot I had one all along: I got an official Capcom bluetooth in Vegas. Thanks Capcom!
