SO MANY PAGES...!!!
Oct. 20th, 2008 11:02 pmOkay so after 20,000 years I finally finished Shogun!
It's a fantastic book, but at the same time, I couldn't help but be disappointed with the ending. It felt like when it got to a certain point, everything started to drag out and be less interesting... The last hundred pages especially. Maybe I should have held off reading it 'cause I'm sick today (ughhhh my throat hurts so bad it's making my ears hurt) and that kind of spoiled some of the enjoyment.
But the first 900 pages or so of the book were really excellent, so that's what I'm going to think about when I look back on the book.
( A couple extra thoughts, slight spoilers )
On an unrelated note, we need to get some GSRP ideas flowing. Sil if you read this before I come on again, let's start a planning thread for Halloween. There's still time to cook up something. Hopefully I won't be so sick then >:I

What's Croik doing?
Oct. 15th, 2008 12:33 amBeen a while since I posted, so I figured I might as well say some stuff!
House front is still fucked. I think I must have killed a poor innocent house in a former life. Or maybe it's because I declared to not watch House anymore and then went back on my word. In any case, I am not lodged in a house as of yet. It's a good thing my priorities are unhealthily skewed towards gaming and internet, or else it would be really getting to me by now!!
Speaking of gaming, right now I've been working on Warriors Orochi 2. It doesn't have the same charm that WO1 had, but I feel like I've been more efficient about unlocking items and thingies, and the new characters are a great addition.
For the record I am not happy about Samurai Warriors 3 being announced for the Wii, and I hope Koei smartens up! ONLY THE SUPERIOR POWER OF THE PS3 CAN HANDLE ENOUGH FACELESS PEONS TO QUENCH MY THIRST FOR DEAD SAMURAI BLOOD!!! Also I have no Wii and have no plans to change this, despite the temptation of Oboro Muramasa Yotoden. Vanilliaware whyyyyyyyyyyy ;_;
However, the last laugh shall be mine, when I butcher a Muramasa level on Little Big Planet. DARE ME!!!!
(Actually I'm more interested in making a killer Gantz level with a giant Buddha. That would be so rock)
Anyone else getting LBP? I have literally no friends on my PS3 account. Come make beautiful alien Buddha with me plz :U
But the most interesting thing I've been up to is reading James Clavell's Shogun for the first time.
( I know, I'm so wrong for not reading this sooner )
So that's what I've been up to :D I've also been watching Chuck, Heroes, and House (why!?) but I'll save those thoughts for another post.

It's the beret that makes him evil
Jun. 30th, 2008 12:45 pmThe past three nights I've had dreams about Metal Gear. First it was just the little item boxes that appear in the bottom corners of the screen placed over my dream, so that I could switch weapons while fighting off the killers from Funny Games. Then Major Zero convinced me to sign up for a cosplay contest at the cost of my immortal soul. And last night, Old Snake and I were trying to get MGS4 cutscenes to play on my SNES. Clearly I'm suffering some kind of Snake overdose.
So here's some more MGS talk :D

I need more MGS icons
Jun. 22nd, 2008 10:50 amSo instead of starting MGS4 over immediately after beating it, I decided to go back and play the rest of the series and THEN do it again. Everything really takes on a new feeling, playing it after playing 4.
Yesterday I finished MGS3 :D. I also went back to my old entries about MGS3 (spoilers) to see if my opinions had changed. So here are somethoughts.
( Spoilers for MGS1 and 3, but not 4 this time )

I NEED SCISSORS...!!!!
Jun. 18th, 2008 01:03 amI went to re-upload all my old Metal Gear icons and it turns out they're all some form of penis joke. Whoops.
Reason being, I BEAT METAL GEAR SOLID 4 OMG.
( And I have a lot to say (epic full game spoilers) )
Man there should be more to say but I've totally run out of steam. I actually beat the game Monday night and it took me this long to write everything up. So if you've beaten the game, please come and talk to me before I go crazy. *_*
…. <3 you, Kojima~

WORKY WORK, BUSY BEEEEE
Jun. 13th, 2008 07:19 pmIf you're playing Metal Gear Online and you happen to run into a skinhead in green named "Bambi," that's me :D Be my friend plz.
But that's all I'm going to say about the game, because I'm afraid of spoiling, and I'm afraid people might respond and unintentionally gauge me as being further in the game than I am, and spoil me. And I don't want spoilings!
So, I'll just say I'm enjoying a lot :D. I've been compiling notes that I'll put up once I'm all finished.
( In other news, I've been super busy! huge pics under cut )

May. 13th, 2008 06:44 pmGO SEE SPEED RACER.
Okay, so it didn't do so well its opening weekend. And on Tomatoes it got a 35%. But fuck that, I went to see a live action anime and by golly that's what I got!
Saw the movie on Saturday with TK, Anders, and some friends, and TK and I are already planning on going again this weekend. The critics aren't wrong about it: it's super fast, super showy, has CG out the wazoo, has a cheesy 70s anime plot and cheesy 70s anime characters. But everything they hated about the movie is what I loved.
Honestly, I never watched the old cartoon. But the movie itself is done in the anime style so well that it still manages to hit all my nostalgia buttons, from the speed lines to the "power of friendship" moral to the giant close up of a face with a flashback going on in the background--all of which kept me glued to Sailor Moon every morning in 7th grade.
And for as fast and as crazy as it was, it's not as impossible to keep up as the critics make it out to be. At least, not if you've ever played Zone of the Enders 2. On acid. But then, anyone who's seen the commercials can see that.
The week before seeing Speed Racer, I saw Iron Man. And Iron Man was a fantastic film - better than Speed Racer in every objective way, to be sure. But if I'm being totally honest...I still enjoyed Speed better. Iron Man was awesome but I don't know anything about the comic, and as great as Stark was I didn't feel particularly attached. But Speed felt like it was targeted directly to people like me: people who loved anime as a kid, in all its sappy glory, and want to relive that a little. And that's just what it let me do. Thanks you hot hot Emile and hot smoking hot Rain.
So I guess what I'm really saying is if you ever cried at Sailor Moon, and aren't opposed to putting your eyeballs into a shake-and-bake bag full of glitter, you'll probably like the movie :D But if anime cheese-drama rubs you wrong or you get motion sickness easily, RUN AWAY! (and go see Iron Man instead).

May. 5th, 2008 10:56 pmUPDATE TIME!!!
I need to keep up D:
I'm doing great lately. Haven't finished my cosplay yet... but I just finished a book today, so I'm giving myself tomorrow off to get the vest out and really do some work. Got Sculpy clay to do the badge, and right now I'm trying to mod some old shoes of mine to use... Not sure if they're going to work out, but if not I might have to resort to black 'cause I'm trying not to spend more money than I already am on this trip. Other than the haircut I'll need, but that's what Borics is for.
Got some good news on the house TK and I put an offer on - they still need to work things out with their bank, but it's looking like they're planning on accepting the offer flat out instead of countering. If the bank gives a green light, we'll get a great deal :D
Though most of my time lately has been spent with my new PSP and the FFT remake (when I'm not working with my porn, of course. I'll do an update post on work later...)
( THE LUCKY PIG GETS TO KEEP HIS BACON )
Anyway, those are my thoughts. Back to grinding~

Croik vs Crotch!!!!
Apr. 13th, 2008 11:11 pmSo despite much effort and changing of tensions and foots and threads and stich and etc, I could not for the life of me convince my sewing machine to do a straight line down Apollo's red fabric. See as the con is coming up, I decided there was nothing left but to...buy new fabric! So I did. It's cheap stuff but I'm running out of time here....!!! (and monies)
Speaking of monies, TK put a bid on one of the houses we were looking at :D IT WILL BE OURS!!!
Anyway, I stitched up the pants today, except I screwed up and there's something wrong with the crotch seam that gives me a rather unflattering fold :< At least it's not coming apart like Edgeworth's did, but I'll have some experimenting to do tomorrow. Are any of you knowledgeable in crotch seams!?
OH! BTW today was my birthday ^____^ TK is totally awesome and got me a PSP! I've wanted one for a while but I couldn't quite justify it to myself, with all the money I'm going to be spending on North and new house and everything. She got me Portable Ops Plus with it too, but since neither of us realized that Plus doesn't actually have the story mode in it, I gotta find the original! Until then I'm playing the Patapon demo over and over and over.
SPANK THEM BOTTOMS!!!
I've kind of thought about getting a mod kit that will let me play it on my TV, because I hate tiny screens, but I'm really hoping that Sony will just make the Remote Play option reversible (since as it is now, Remote Play is utterly useless). Not that Sony is the king of Good Ideas And Decisions, but oh well. I can dream until the warrenty runs out and then I'm taking a screwdriver to it!
Thanks for the birthday wishes, guys :D

Apr. 11th, 2008 03:41 pmMost people on my FList have been talking about the new Edgeworth game, so I figure I might as well put in a few words!
I'm looking forward to the game a lot, but at the same time I'm a little worried about it. On the positive side, Edgeworth and Gumshoe are awesome. I have no problem with them changing up the gameplay, because that's really what spin offs are for, and it could be fun. And Edgeworth's little running animation is so fabulously adorable <3
It also has the added bonus of appeasing a lot of the anti-AJ fans (at least, I hope so). People miss Edgeworth, and with his own side game, maybe that'll keep them from pushing for him to show up in GS5. I certainly wouldn't mind if he WAS in GS5, but I don't want Capcom to shoehorn him in without a really good reason, so if GK satisfies that, maybe it means GS5 won't have to worry about accomodating Edgeworth as fanservice.
Or, maybe GK will tie in to GS5 and GIVE Edgeworth an excuse to show up there, which would be just as cool.
But on the other hand, I worry about their choice of setting. Setting GK during the first game might just as well indicate they're making no effort to tie it to AJ's canon at all, and that it's just a throwaway money-maker. Like my brother pointed out to me, slipping in an extra chapter within the middle of a game means that Edgeworth doesn't have much room to develop at all - if he doesn't start and end as kind of an ass, they're ret-conning his personality from game 1, and if he does, is it really worth it? 1-5 already did its damnedest to make Edgweorth out to be a victim more than a determined but ultimately unethical prosecutor, and already it's looking like GK will continue to make Edgeworth out to be the hero.
On the official website, the quote along the side reads, "A proscutor is someone who gets a guilty verdict. But I don't think that's all there is to it." Call me crazy, but that second part is very obviously NOT the attitude Edgeworth had before 1-4. True the game takes place at a time where Phoenix is starting to break down that ideology, but if anything important happens in these cases that helps Edgeworth become a better person, that's like...spitting on Phoenix. AGAIN.
STOP RET-CONNING CANON, CAPCOM. IT DOESN'T MAKE ME LIKE YOU.
Also, I don't think that profile pic is Kris and I don't want it to be Kris. >8(
In short I'm still looking forward to GS5 more than I am GyakuKen.

April Fools on CR~
Apr. 2nd, 2008 10:05 pmThis year on CR we wanted to do something that was funny, but would actually trick more people than WHAT A!? did last year (since everyone enjoyed Kyle, but I only got ONE angry email). This year, we instead announced that CR would from now on be Apollo Justice only, and I removed/hid all the Phoenix-arc related material.
Got more angry emails this time 8D
( And because I love you, here are a few of the ones I enjoyed the most! )
Oh CR. Don't ever change.

Mar. 28th, 2008 06:04 pmI'm not usually a meme person, I swear!
a) List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
1. I'm a hair twirler. I take locks of my hair and twirl them around my finger until they become so tight that the hair breaks and makes a very satisfying SNAP. It's not a bored thing or a nervous thing, it just keeps my hands busy. Been doing it since I was 5 or 6 :D
2. I can't write if there's someone standing behind me. Even if it's perfectly innocent writing (not MAN PORN), even if I'm 100% positive they're not paying attention to what I'm doing, I just can't do it!
3. I don't like wearing socks, so I'm always taking them off in weird places, usually at my desk. There's a little nook in my desk that I shove them into. Right now there are two and a half pairs of socks in there.
4. When I was tiny I got it into my head that if I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, the sound of the toilet flushing would alert the monsters in the house that I wasn't in bed like I was supposed to be, and they would rush up the stairs to get me. Even now I sometimes won't flush >.>;;;
5. I didn't have a driver's license until last summer. I'm 25 :(
6. Until college I was anti-yaoi. Not just not into it, ANTI-yaoi, mostly because of Kenshin/Sano. Guess what pairing changed my mind 8D~~~~
7. I can't stand still when I brush my teeth. I have to wander out of the bathroom and into various bedrooms and check things out. Brushing my hair, though, I can do standing still.

Personal update~
Mar. 26th, 2008 02:45 pmI've been making mostly fandom posts lately, so I thought maybe I'd update about what's going on in CROIK'S REAL LIFE OMG D:
I just finished writing out my checks to the IRS. OUCH. Bye, monies~~~ I'm still doing okay, but it sucks having to dish out that much cash at once. I made more this year than last, but that means Sam takes a bigger bite! At least this time I printed out some pre-vouchers that I can pay off through the year, so it won't be a big ass check come tax time 2009.
I know there are peeps on my Flist who are interested in self employment, so if you want to hear some actual numbers, I'd be willing to share them privately.
But the much more exciting news is... TK and I are buying a house!! :D
( THAT'S RIGHT, A HOUSE!! )
